Spear 60th Anniversary
Lois and Charlie Spear celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Wausau on Saturday, October 10, 2009.
Their five children joined them at their new residence, the Primrose, on Townline Road: Jack (from Eagle River), Gerri Lardinois with her husband Galen (of Stevens Point) and their daughter Katie, William Allen (of Wausau) with Bill’s wife Bonnie and their son Ben, Thomas (of New York), and Margaret Betteridge with her husband Brian (of Decorah, Iowa) and their three daughters Nicole, Eliza and Sylvia. Only one of their six grandchildren could not attend, Sara Spear (of Bloomington, Indiana), but Charlie’s nephew William Aristides Spear flew in from Fountain Valley California, with Bill’s wife Kathleen, to celebrate this milestone.
Lois (nee Johnson) married Charles Spear in Lois’s community church in the township of Caledonia (near Portage, Wisconsin) on October 9, 1949.
They had met in Milwaukee, where Lois and her nursing friends held a party and Charlie, visiting from his native Boston, was in training program with Allis Chalmers. As Lois says, she knew she was expecting to enter this marriage “for the long haul,” through thick and thin. Sixty years later, they were happy to share this moment with their family, and look forward to hearing words of congratulations from friends.
