5 things to do this weekend in Sheboygan

Sheboygan Hub staff

Looking for something to do in Sheboygan this weekend? Here are a few suggestions.

♦ 1. Get the Food and Wine Experience. Do you like food? How about wine? Then you’re going to want to check out the Kohler Food & Wine experience @ Destination Kohler. The annual event runs through Sunday and events include additional wine and beer seminars, celebrity chef judging for the Kohler Chef Challenge and a members-only trap shoot at River Wildlife with Marc Mondavi, third-generation member of one of Napa Valley's legendary winemaking families. Plus, Andrew Zimmern, the guy who eats that sick stuff on the Travel Channel, is scheduled to make appearances on Friday and Saturday. A complete schedule, tickets and pricing for the 2009 Kohler Food & Wine Experience are available online at www.KohlerFoodandWine.net or by calling (800) 344-2838. Ticketed event prices start at $15 and many events and tastings are complimentary. Events sell out quickly and it is advised to make reservations early to help ensure best selection and availability.

See some live music: This weekend is going to be a great weekend for live music with big shows @ The Green Room and Paradigm Coffeehouse. The Green Room, 911 Indiana Ave., in Sheboygan, will bring in The Steepwater Band of Chicago on Friday and self-described world traveling hobo Delaney Davidson with puppeteer Lax Laze on Saturday. Both shows are free. Local favorites Cedarwell and Zach Vinson will bring their live acts to the new Paradigm, 1202 N. 8th St, in Sheboygan, on Friday, at 8 p.m. Cover for this show is $5, and well worth it.

♦ 3. See "Saw VI": Oh yes, there will be blood. And, probably, lots of it too. For some reason this series just won’t die, despite the fact that the main character died in “Saw III,” and, yet, is somehow still killing. How are they going to explain that one? Who cares? It’s Halloween, and this is the best scary movie out there (unless you’re one of the few who thought the epically lousy “The Stepfather” was going to do the trick). Plus, you get to see the winner of VH1’s “Scream Queens,” Tanedra Howard, in her debut scream queen role that she won on the show. My guess, four seconds and BAM, dead. Also opening this weekend, the horror, or comedy, or horror/comedy … I can’t tell from the commercials, “Cirque du Freak: Vampire’s Assistant” starring John C. Reilly and Salma Hayek and the animated “Astro Boy.”

♦ 4. Check out the video sale in Falls. The Sheboygan Falls Public Library has 2,000 for sale this weekend, as well as cassettes and other selected items … for 10 cents each! Maybe I’ll finally find that VHS copy of “Howard the Duck” I’ve been looking for. The sale is on Friday 9 a.m.-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.-2:45 p.m.

♦ 5. Have a ladies night out. Fellows, this one is just for the ladies. Downtown Sheboygan Falls will host Ladies Night Out from 5-9 p.m. Friday night. It’s a night of shopping and pampering just for the “gals” in the Historic Downtown District. First 300 ladies receive a free tote bag and carnation. Stop at the Chamber-Main Street office, 504 N. Broadway, to get a "Passport to Pampering.” For more info, visit www.sheboyganfalls.org.

If you have an event, post it in our calendar. Enjoy the weekend!
